Assistantships
Graduate assistantships for the summer master's program in music education are partial awards that cover approximately three credits of tuition. These awards are renewable for up to three consecutive summers, providing the recipient enrolls in six credits each summer and remains in good academic standing. Assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis based on audition results, undergraduate academic record, and previous experience. Graduate assistants work six hours each week. Duties typically include assisting faculty members with research or clerical work.
Application Procedures
Students who wish to receive full consideration for admission to the summer master’s program in music education, as well as for an assistantship, must apply online through the Division of Graduate Studies by April 1. Other applications for admission only will be accepted on a space available basis until June 15. Apply online.
On-campus auditions are required for admission. To schedule an audition, please contact Thomas Kline, director of music admission, at (607) 274-3157, or via email at tkline@ithaca.edu.
Summer Workshops
Up to 5 credits toward the degree may be earned in Graduate Music Workshops. These one-week workshops provide a variety of educational experiences each year and may be taken by degree students or non-degree students, for credit or not for credit. The workshops occur in the week preceding the five-week graduate music summer session, offering students in the summer music education degree program on opportunity to earn credits outside of the regular summer session.
