CALL FOR PAPERS

The Program Committee for the 2012 meeting of the Music Theory Society of New York State (MTSNYS) invites proposals for papers and presentations on any topic related to music theory and analysis.

  1. Any number of proposals may be submitted by an individual, but no more than one will be accepted.
  2. Papers given at national conferences or previously published will not be considered.
  3. Proposals could either be for 30-minute presentations (with 15 minutes for possible response or discussion) or for poster sessions.

We will consider proposals for panels as well as non-conventional presentation formats. The submission requirements for panel and non-conventional formats are the same as above, except that the proposals need not be anonymous.

Paper submission should include:

  1. One electronic version (.pdf format) of a proposal of no more than 500 words, including any footnotes or endnotes. A maximum of four pages of supplementary material (such as musical examples, diagrams, and bibliography) should be included if appropriate; they will not be counted within the 500-word limit. The proposal copy should include the title of the paper, but should not include anything that would identify the author, because proposals are read blind.
  2. An abstract of 200–250 words, suitable for publication.
  3. A cover letter listing the title of the paper; the name, address, institutional affiliation, telephone number, and e-mail address of the author(s); and all audio and visual needs. In addition, graduate students should identify themselves as such in order to indicate eligibility for the Patricia Carpenter Award. The cover letter should be sent as the body of the e-mail, with the proposal and the abstract included as attachments.

Proposals should be sent to:

wmarvin@esm.rochester.edu

DEADLINE IS 1 OCTOBER 2011, 11:59 A.M., EASTERN STANDARD TIME

Members of the 2012 Program Committee are William Marvin (Eastman School of Music), chair; Christopher Doll (Rutgers University), Jonathan Dunsby (ex officio, Eastman School of Music), Rebecca Jemian (Ithaca College), Sarah Fuller (State University of New York at Stony Brook)
