Ithaca College was well represented at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago this past December. “Midwest” is an annual pilgrimage for thousands of music educators from across the country where they share ideas, attend concerts, and reunite with old friends.
Two IC alumni were clinicians: Col. Arnald Gabriel ‘50 HDRMU ’89 presented a session on score preparation and Anthony Maiello ’65 MS. ‘67 spoke on “Conducting Insights: Moving from Technique to Artistry.”
Jenna Troiano ’07 was one of the conductors of the Clint Small Middle School Wind Ensemble from Austin, Texas, which had been selected to perform via the always very competitive national auditions.
Another event that the school hopes will become a Midwest tradition is inviting professors, students, and alumni in attendance at clinic to a Chicago-style pizza lunch and reunion. This year 26 alumni, students and faculty reunited from around the country sharing stories from their time together on South Hill. Anyone attending future clinics is invited to seek this out to participate.
