ITHACA, NY — Five free concerts by students and faculty at the Ithaca College Summer Piano Institute will take place in July. All performances will take place in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.
Sunday, July 5, 4 p.m.
Jennifer Hayghe will be joined by fellow faculty pianists Diane Birr, Elena Nezhdanova and Sam Welsh in a concert of works by Beethoven, Grainger, Grieg, Liszt and Mozart.
Monday, July 6, 7:30 p.m.
Faculty and student pianists will perform duet and duo piano music. The program will feature works by Mozart, Brahms, Milhaud, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin. Pianists will include Susan Avery, Will Gunn, Anna Halperin, Nathan Hess and Deborah Martin.
Tuesday, July 7, 7:30 p.m.
Faculty pianist Diane Birr, flutist Wendy Mehne and cellist Heidi Hoffman will present George Crumb’s “Vox Balaenae” (Voice of the Whale). Elena Nezhdanova will perform works by Olivier Messiaen.
Thursday, July 9, 7:30 p.m.
A jazz concert will feature faculty pianist John White.
Friday, July 10, 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, July 11, 10 a.m.
Students at the institute will perform.
Running from July 2 to 11, the Summer Piano Institute gives young pianists, aged 12 through 18, a chance to work with the internationally renowned Ithaca College piano faculty. The program provides daily lessons, workshops, classes and supervised practice. School of Music piano faculty members providing instruction are Diane Birr, Jennifer Hayghe, Deborah Martin and Phiroze Mehta.
