News From Our Alumni
Rachele Armstrong '06 and Sara Barasch '05 are working at IMG Artists in New York. Rachele reports that she works specifically in the Conductors and Instrumentalists division doing contracts and work visas for a roster of artists and also in Special Projects, working on arts/music festivals and special event consulting/planning. Sara is in the Sales Division, and books the vocal roster with an extensive list of accounts in North America. She also manages ad placement, creation and details for industry publications and coordinates conference materials and sales brochures.
Daniel Bacigalupi ’08 has been working at Georgetown Masters in Nashville since graduation. He just finished mastering the new CD for IC’s retired jazz man Steve Brown's latest project Atlantic Bridge. Tracking for the project was engineered in the Whalen Center by Brian Dozoretz ’94 and current staff and faculty engineer Alex Perialas ’81.
Andrew Bergevin '08 has just won a full time section violin seat in the Syracuse Symphony starting with the 2009-10 season.
Christopher Brellochs '91 was recently interviewed in May/June issue of the Saxophone Journal, where he spoke about studying with Steve Mauk at Ithaca College. He also recently released a solo CD entitled Apotheosis of the Saxophone. Brellochs currently teaches at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY where he is the chair of the music certificate program and department supervisor of music.
Andrew Chugg '02 has been appointed artistic administrator of the Virginia Opera in Norfolk. In this position he is in charge of the artistic budget, casting, contracting, and scheduling, among other things. He is one of the youngest, if not the youngest, artistic administrators at an opera company of Virginia Opera's size in the United States. Prior to Virginia Opera, he was assistant artistic administrator and company manager for Florida Grand Opera, and before that was artistic coordinator for Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, NY.
Dominick DiOrio '06 has been appointed director of choirs at Music at Lone Star College-Montgomery starting in Fall 2009. In this position, he will be responsible for directing the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, teaching the Ear-Training/Sightsinging curriculum, and overseeing all aspects of the choral program. Dominick will also be traveling to Sweden in October 2009 to participate in the Eric Ericson Award, the top international competition for young choral conductors. He is one of twelve conductors invited to compete and--as part of the competition--will have the opportunity to work with such ensembles as the Academy Chamber Choir of Uppsala and the Swedish Radio Choir.
Dr. Carolyn (Schayes) Goettsch '76, a vocal student of Angus Godwin who continued her education to become a chiropractor in 1980, has been a soprano and soloist with The Master's Touch Chorale in Syracuse, NY since 1993. On December 22, 2008, the Master's Touch Chorale sang in the grand foyer of The White House during the Christmas season open house for military and their families. This was the third time the Master's Touch Chorale was invited to sing in the White House. They also sang there in December of 2002 and 2004.
Allison Hooper '07 is the artistic operations manager at Glimmerglass Opera, where she writes artist contracts, tracks the Artistic Dept budget, coordinates auditions for mainstage artists and applicants to the Young American Artists Program, coordinates travel for the mainstage artists for the festival season, writes visa petitions for foreign artists, and assists with the management of seasonal staff and visiting artists.
Stephanie Lauricella '06 is debuting with San Jose Opera next October in Cenerentola. She is currently in her second season with Central City as an apprentice and will be returning to Sarasota Opera, Florida next spring to cover Hansel in Hansel & Gretl and sing the role of Lola in Cavelleria Rusticana.
Kristin Zaryski '04 has been appointed director of the Michigan State University Community Music School Children’s Choir. She was selected from an international pool of 25 applicants. The search committee noted that her strong musicianship set her apart from the others. Kristin has been a music educator in Florida, New York and Michigan. “She has exceptional musical and expressive gifts and has wonderful rapport with the young people,” said Rhonda Buckley, executive director of the MSU Community Music
Recent composition grads are heading in exciting directions: Ian Power ‘06 is working on a Ph.D. in composition at Harvard, Robert Pierzak ’06 is headed to UC San Diego, Dillon Kondor '08 is attending the Manhattan School, Cody Wymore ’09 will join David Fleszar '08 at the NYU Musical Theatre program, Matthew Podd ’08 is studying jazz composition at the Eastman School of Music, and Laura Intravia ’09 is off to Boston University.
