Free Concert At Ithaca College Will Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

ITHACA, NY — The Ithaca College School of Music will celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. with a free concert on Monday, Jan. 19. Capping off a daylong series of events honoring the civil rights leader, the performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

Directed by Dana Wilson, the concert will include dramatic readings, along with performances by the Ithaca College Chorus, Choir, Trombone Troupe, Wind Ensemble, and the Amani Gospel Singers. Among the soloists will be faculty members John White, Steve Mauk, and Diane Birr, and senior music performance majors Carami Hilaire and Ian Cruz.

The Ithaca College celebration of the 2009 Martin Luther King Jr. holiday will begin with a breakfast and welcome from President Thomas Rochon. A day of community service projects, workshops, and discussions will follow.
