12:00 p.m. Early registration A&E Center Lobby Students with specific medical conditions will be invited to register early to allow adequate time to speak with our health staff.
1:00 p.m. Registration and Check-In A&E Center Lobby
  • Registration

  • Meet faculty and staff
  • School of Music tours
2:30 p.m. Orientation Meeting Ford Hall, Whalen Center for Music
  • Directors and Program Coordinators discuss SMA policies
  • Faculty and staff introduced
  • Question and answer session
Parents depart at conclusion of meeting.
3:00 p.m. Theory Assessments Ford Hall, Whalen Center for Music Students will take a brief theory examination to determine their placement in Music Fundamentals.
3:30 p.m. Auditions Whalen Center; various rooms

Students will meet privately with faculty to perform a brief audition to determine seating placement within ensembles and chamber groups.

  • Orchestra: Download Orchestra Audition Requirements
  • Voice: Please prepare one piece of your choice with piano accompaniment. Please bring the music with you in the correct key for the accompanist.
  • Wind Ensemble: Wind players and percussionists should plan to perform a solo or etude of their choice. Contrasting musical material (technical and lyrical styles) is preferred. Scales (chromatic through the range of the instrument/major and minor) and rudiments (percussion) may be heard. Sight-reading might also be part of the audition process and will be determined by the individual faculty member.
  • Jazz and Guitar: Please prepare 1-2 solo pieces, plus all known scales/rudiments. Sight-reading may also be required.
5:45 p.m. Dinner    
6:30 p.m. Campus Safety Presentation Emerson Suite B A representative from Campus Safety will be on hand to discuss Ithaca College campus safety policies.
7:00 p.m. Swim Test Pool Students who would like participate in swimming during recreation time will need to attend a swim test at this time.
8:00 p.m. Rehearsal Whalen Center; various rooms Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Voice, Guitar, and Jazz ensembles will have their first rehearsal.
9:00 p.m. Dorm meetings    
10:30 p.m. Lights Out    
       

Check-Out Schedule:

Parents are invited to attend all of the following concerts. Students will perform on both Friday and Saturday and are not permitted to depart earlier than the stated check-out time.

11:00 a.m. Applying to Music Schools Presentation Ford Hall Admissions Director Thomas Kline will discuss the process for auditioning and applying to college music schools.
11:45 a.m. Lunch Campus Center Students will eat in the dining halls. Parents are encouraged to eat before arrival.
12:30 p.m. Check-Out Dorms  
2:00 p.m. Gala Concert #2 Ford Hall, Whalen Center for Music

Gala concert#2 featuring:

  • Wind Ensemble
  • Symphony Orchestra
  • Jazz Institute Big Band
