2013 High School Division Faculty
Summer Music Academy faculty consist of current Ithaca College faculty, top music educators from across the country, and renowned guest artists. Junxia Hou is the Professor of Double Bass, Director of Orchestral Instruments Department, and Director of the Orchestra Academy at China Conservatory; President of the Chinese Society of Double Bassists; Executive Director of the China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra; and founder and Artistic Director of the Beijing International Double Bass Festival. He also holds the guest professorship at Central Conservatory of Music and Chinese University of Dramatic Arts.
Professor Hou has been invited to be the jury member of many major International Double Bass Competitions, such as World Bass Festival-International Double Bass Competition (Poland), ISB Double Bass Competition (U.S.), and International J.M. Sperger Double Bass Competition (Germany).
With his guidance, many of his students have won top prizes in national and international competitions. After graduation, most of his students are playing in major orchestras in China, including China National Symphony Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, China National Center for the Performing Arts Orchestra, and Beijing Symphony Orchestra. Some of his students are teaching in conservatories, music colleges and universities, such as Tianjin Conservatory and Xian Conservatory.
As the Executive Director, Professor Hou led the China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra to successful concert tours in Europe, Asia and America. He is often invited to give concerts and master-classes in many countries.
Professor Hou is also the author of many books and teaching methods about double bass, some of which have been awarded national prizes and supported by state funding.
