Kai Johnson is an active freelance trombone player throughout the Finger Lakes region of New York. He can be seen performing with a variety of ensembles including the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. In addition to performing, Kai is the Visiting Lecturer of Low Brass at Cornell University, where he teaches private lessons and coaches ensemble sectionals. Outside of Cornell, Kai maintains a small teaching studio comprised of aspiring low brass instrumentalists who wish to pursue careers in music.
Kai studied trombone with Norman Bolter and Ron Barron at the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA where he completed his Bachelor of Music degree. He holds a Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance from Ithaca College, where he worked with Dr. Harold Reynolds. In 2012, Kai was inducted to the prestigious Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
