Traevena Byrd, associate counsel & director of equal opportunity compliance
Students beginning internships need to be aware of sexual harassment in the workplace, reported the Chicago Tribune. Byrd commented that at Ithaca College interns are required to attend training on sexual harassment issues before they go out to work. Byrd tells students, for example, that pulling up a Facebook page at the office that shows photos from a girls' night out might send an unwelcome invitation to a potential offender. “Students nowadays … it’s safe to say that standards have shifted and there’s a higher degree of comfort in the things that people will say and do online, which isn't always appropriate for the workplace,” Byrd said.
