Jason Hamilton, associate professor of Environmental Studies and Sciences

Jason Hamilton participated in a five-person panel on world hunger at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, reports the Finger Lakes Times.  Reflecting on the climate, biodiversity, health care and financial crises we’re currently experiencing, Hamilton says, “we have a system crisis, and all of these things are just symptoms.”  He encouraged the audience to bypass the current system entirely by using, for example, grassroots coffee shops that support coffee growers directly.  He said market demands currently force farmers to sells beans below what it costs to produce.
