Rachel Wagner, associate professor, Department of Philosophy and Religion
Wagner was quoted by the Huffington Post in an article discussing the attraction of first-person shooters in video games. She argues the first-person shooter is comparable to a religious ritual, since players move through a pre-scripted experience with feelings of agency and performance. “This kind of control is very fulfilling, especially for those people who might feel powerless in their everyday lives.”
