Rachel Wagner, associate professor of philosophy and religion
In an article written for the online news site Religion Dispatches, Wagner discussed the decision by the New York Post to publish a photo taken of a man right before he was struck by a New York City subway car. She wrote, “Without the framing device of community, without any context in which to shape the interpretation of the events, such images become simply sensational, the prick of pain without the moral payoff.”
