Michael McCall, professor of marketing and law
McCall joined a team of travel and tipping experts to give tipping advice to The Washington Post. His experiences have proved that it’s important to understand local culture and how it applies to tipping. “When we stayed at a resort in the Dominican Republic, we were told explicitly not to tip,” said McCall. “Because of the poverty, any staff member could be searched when leaving for the day. Foreign currency of any kind was deemed to have been stolen from the tourists.”
