Construction firms are concerned about the affect of an aging workforce on their business, reported Training and Development, a publication of the American Society for Training and Development. An expert on aging demographics in businesses, Stephen Sweet emphasizes that companies need to plan ahead and strategize how to transfer knowledge to those newly entering building firms. “The construction industry is interesting because of the number of skills learned on the job and transferred from employee to employee. And if one can anticipate that a large proportion of employees will age out of the workforce, and do so in rapid succession, that could affect the transfer of knowledge from one generation of workers to the next.
