Stephen Mosher, professor of sport management and media
WICZ TV interviewed Mosher about the current state of college athletics. Mosher asserted that if Division I colleges want to continue running their sports programs like professional sports, “The colleges ought to say, we are going to have a semi-professional sports team playing on our campus, and those athletes will become employees of the college and get paid whatever the going rate would be, but they wouldn’t be going to school.” Otherwise, he says, “Let’s go back to 1960, before national television, and allow the universities to have small regional rivalries where the stadiums are packed and the kids have fun and the season’s only 9 games long instead of 13, 14, or 15.”
