Ithaca, NY--Associate professor of flute Wendy Herbener Mehne will give a free recital at Ithaca College on Sunday, November 3. The performance will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. Assistant professor of piano Diane Birr will collaborate.
The performance will highlight several of Mehne's colleagues. She will play a duet, "Duo des Fleurs," with music lecturer Kelly Jepson Covert. Pablo Cohen, adjunct assistant professor of guitar, will join Mehne on "Sonatina" by Radames Gnattali. The work combines popular Brazilian music with traditional classical forms. In addition, Mehne will perform the New York premiere of American composer Dan Welcher's "Florestan's Falcon," which the composer dedicated to her. Also on the program are selections from Bach's solo cello suites that Mehne has arranged for flute and Robert Muczynski's "Sonata." Mehne is a member of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and a founding member of the "new music" group Ensemble X. Playing with the Ithaca Wind Quintet, she performed the world premiere of Karel Husa's "Cayuga Lake (Memories)" at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.
