25th Anniversary of 50-Hour Radio Marathon to Benefit Ithaca Community Harvest
ITHACA, NY — For the 25th year, Ithaca College’s VIC Radio will hold its 50-Hour Marathon to raise money for a worthy local cause. Student disc jockeys Adam Girgenti ’12 and Mike D’Agostino ’11 will forgo sleep for 50 straight hours during the weekend of April 15–17 on behalf of Ithaca Community Harvest.
From its humble beginnings as a simple bowling party to the station’s biggest event of the year, the 50-Hour Marathon is a fun-filled way to make a difference in the community. This year’s beneficiary is Ithaca Community Harvest, an organization dedicated to providing children of low-income families with fresh, local produce to balance their diets.
From 4 p.m. on Friday until 6 p.m. Sunday, Girgenti and D’Agostino will broadcast nonstop from various fund-raising events around the community. Listeners can access the live stream at www.vicradio.org, and the entire weekend will be simulcast on WICB (91.7 FM) and ICTV, (Time Warner cable channel 16).
In the past three years alone, the marathon has raised over $10,000. Organizations that have received proceeds from the event have included the Tompkins Community Action Emergency Food Pantry, AIDSWork of Tompkins County and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ithaca and Tompkins County.
VIC Radio is an entirely student-run, noncommercial radio station based in Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications. For more information, contact VIC Radio public relations director Steve Koplik at email@example.com.
