Ithaca College to Screen Academy Award-Winning Documentary on Harvey Milk

ITHACA, NY — The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen film series at Ithaca College will show “The Times of Harvey Milk” — winner of the 1985 Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary — on Wednesday, March 23. The 7 p.m. screening in Textor 102 is free and open to the public.

Extensive news film and personal recollections are used in this documentary on Milk’s life, from his election as the first openly gay member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to his successful efforts to politically represent the city’s gay community and the reaction to his 1978 assassination by former fellow supervisor Dan White.

The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen film series is sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services. The theme for this year’s series is “History and Heroes of the LGBT Movement.”
