Ithaca College's 'Careers in Sport Symposium' will Offer Advice About Employment in the Sport Industry
ITHACA, NY — Alumni panelists and speakers representing all walks of the sport industry — from the public address announcer for the New York Islanders to a network information administrator at ESPN to the manager of operations for ScoreBig Inc. — will gather at Ithaca College on Saturday, Oct. 15, to share industry insights and offer advice to area students and anyone else considering a profession in sports.
Free and open to the public, the event will start at 8:30 a.m. with a meet-and-greet breakfast outside Textor 102. At 9 a.m., Jim McDonald, president at CornerStone Marketing, will give the keynote address in Textor 102. Then, throughout the morning, panelists employed by the United States Olympic Committee, Madison Square Garden, New York State Golf Association, NBA and numerous other sport enterprises will meet in rooms in Friends Hall, offering two rounds of four panels. The topics will be Sport Management, Sport Media, Continuing Education and Fieldwork/Internships. Current students who have completed an internship in the sport industry will attend the Fieldwork/Internship panel and offer tips to fellow students currently pursuing an internship experience.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for students to mingle and network with professionals in the management, media and other aspects of the sport industry,” said Kyle Woody, instructor of sport management and media. “Students will also have the chance to learn about emerging trends in the sport profession, gain insight about the appropriate paths to take toward gainful employment and listen to new perspectives about the business of sport.”
‘Careers in Sport Symposium 2011’ is sponsored by the Department of Sport Management and Media.
