POSTPONED DUE TO ILLNESS! Cecilia Vicuna to Give Reading at Ithaca College
ITHACA, NY — Chilean poet and visual artist Cecilia Vicuña will give a free public reading from her works at Ithaca College on Tuesday, March 19. Her 7:30 p.m. presentation in Klingenstein Lounge, Egbert Hall, is sponsored by the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series.
Vicuña exhibits and performs widely in Europe, Latin America and the United States. Engaged with improvisatory oral performance, her work deals with interactions between language, the environment and textiles. She is the coeditor of the “Oxford Book of Latin American Poetry” and has published 20 books of poetry herself. Her film/poem “Kon Kon Pi” was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in 2010.
Vicuña was exiled from Chile in the early 1970s for her support of the elected president, Salvador Allende, who was murdered in a coup. While exiled in London, she cofounded Artists for Democracy to oppose dictatorships in the developing world. Since 1980, she has split her time between New York and Chile.
