The
Office of International Programs requires documentation from
your insurance carrier that states that you have insurance coverage
that is valid during your semester abroad. Information should
be submitted to the Office of International Programs.
All students must have adequate insurance coverage for their needs
while overseas. Students should ascertain that their insurance
provides, as a minimum, the coverage outlined below:
-
Medical benefits of at least $50,000 per person to cover accident
or illness
-
Deductible of less than $500
-
Medical evacuation expenses of at least $10,000
-
Repatriation of remains of at least $7,500
-
Insurance for the duration of the study abroad program, including
international travel
While you are abroad, you will most likely have to pay for medical
care at the time of service and seek reimbursement from your insurance
company. Obtain information on the reimbursement policy and take
copies of the forms required for reimbursement.
If your current insurance provider does not provide adequate coverage
while abroad, you should consider purchasing a plan specifically
designed for study abroad students. If you are interested in this
type of insurance, please refer to the attached list below for
information about companies that provide such insurance plans.
As an Ithaca College student studying abroad, you are required
to purchase the International Student Identity Card (ISIC). This
