 Intern Testimonials

"I really enjoyed doing an internship in London. I was able to learn about my major from a cross-cultural perspective and actually work in a British office. I was able to meet new people and again really immerse myself in the culture". - Scott Kelly, Communications major 2006.

"My internship in social services really gave me the chance to get out and work with the community. I was able to experience aspects of London that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to." - Melissa Lulay, Humanities and Sciences, 2006.

"Working at the NBC bureau in London was such a great learning experience. I was able to see how an American news organization operates internationally and experience breaking news as it happened. It was truly all about taking initiative and talking to people. I was able to go out with correspondants like Kelly O'Donnell, work with the Today Show (and weekend anchor Campbell Brown!) on covering the Royal wedding live, and even help edit a package for Miss Katie Courie herself! No matter what vocation I end up pursuing, this internship was a valuable learning experience about news, communication and international perspective." - Kaitlin Hasseler, Communications major, 2007.

"I think interning was a great way to get a better impression of the British culture. I got to meet and interact wtih Brits everyday while also seeing how businesses operate differently from the United States. Giving my supervisors the impression that American students work hard and take their work seriously was important to me. Showing them that I was capable was easy and proving to them they didn't make a mistake in hiring me was rewarding! The work experience I have gained here will be useful for me in the future. I did not necessarily learn anything that I can put down on a piece of paper, or anything that can be found in a textbook, but the character traits that I have gained are so valuable to me. Being open to this kind of experience may be challenging for some, but it is totally worth it!

I interned at public relations agency called Red Hot PR. It represents mostly fashion clients, but has begun to take on more lifestyle brands to diversify. The agency has excellent relations with the journalists of major consumer magazines, national newspapers and supplements, and regional publications. This helps them with their success in their business. Tasks for the work placement students can vary at Red Hot PR. While the other intern worked mainly on the fashion side of things, sending and receiving samples, etc., I phoned journalists and editors to keep contact wtih them about stories they were running, if our client could fit in, or if we could run a competition, etc. One of my main jobs was coordinating and placing competitions, which was a great experience for me. I was lucky to be given so much responsibility right from the start. This "proper executive work" that I received will enhance my resume greatly, and I will also be able to produce an impressive portfolio of my work for the company. The people I worked with were nice. It is a very, very small agency but there are two other companies in the same building, giving the overall atmosphere an up-beat tone.

I would recommend doing an internship to someone who is willing to work hard, who doesn't mind working independently at times, and can keep themselves busy. By doing this, the supervisors will take note and begin to assign that "proper executive work" that will help build your portfolio." - Heather Luboff, Communications major, 2007.
