For New Incoming International Students
We look forward to meeting you at the International Student Orientation - August 18-20, 2015. All new international students are required to be in Ithaca by 9 am on Tuesday, August 18, in order to attend the mandatory sessions of International Orientation. There are optional activities on Monday, August 17; the residence halls open for early arrivals on Sunday, August 16 – please see the schedule for details.
International Orientation is free of charge and we invite parents, family, and friends to attend all International Orientation sessions. There is a special session for the parents on Tuesday afternoon – but we invite the parents and families to join us for all other sessions which are of interest to them. We also invite all new students who are coming to Ithaca from overseas, regardless of their immigration status, to join us for the International Orientation. Every year, lots of new students who have US permanent residency or US passports (but are coming to us from abroad) and their families come to International Orientation – and they have found it to be fun and helpful.
Following International Orientation, the undergraduate students will go through the August Academic Orientation on August 20-22 during which they will meet an academic advisor and sign up for classes. There are special orientation sessions for the graduate and exchange students as well. On August 23 everyone will proceed to the Fall Welcome Program during which you will meet the other new IC students.
There are 8 academic orientation sessions for undergraduate students throughout the summer, and if you are planning to be in the area, you are welcome to sign up for one of them via MyIthaca and attend (but you are not required to do so, see above – you will do your academic orientation after you get here in August). For general information about the academic orientation, please go to www.ithaca.edu/orientation/ or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Our office will work closely with the Office of First Year Experience to reserve spaces for all incoming international undergraduate students for the August 20-22 Academic Orientation session. Please note that even if you come for a summer Academic Orientation in June or July, you are still required to attend the mandatory International Student Orientation on August 18-20. Please see the schedule and time chart on the right for more information.
See you in August!
