SUMMER and EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

CULTURE, HEALTH, HEALING AND SPORT (HLTHT 41000/51000, 2 credits)
Prerequisite: HLTH 39900 and permission from instructor.

This course is for students from various health and sport related disciplines to explore philosophy and practice in health, prevention and rehabilitation, sport and physical education from a Chines historical and cultural perspective. This is an optional experiential learning component of a course taught in spring semester. Students will learn skills such as Chinese massage and acupuncture, Tai Chi and Chinese calligraphy, etc. and will visit elite athleitc training and research centers and Chinese health care systems at national and regional levels. Cultural events and visiting historical sites will also be included.
Ithaca currently has exchange relationships with two universities in China, specifically for students in HSHP.

EXCHANGE TO HONG KONG

Ithaca College has an agreement with the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Arts to send 2 students overseas every semester. The UHK is a leading institution in the world with the Faculty of Sciences being established in 1967. Departments in this faculty are:
  • Department of Politics and Public Administration
  • Department of Psychology
  • Department of Social Work and Social Administration
  • Department of Sociology
The Faculty has numerous research centers and institutes that fall within these departments and close ties to communities within Hong Kong where there is much opportunity for service learning.

Eligibility requirements:

Sophomore, junior or senior standing
Minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA
Good judicial standing at the College

As with all Ithaca College exchange programs:

  • Tuition will be paid to Ithaca College
  • State, federal and institutional financial aid may be applied to the program cost, though actual aid amounts will be re-evaluated based upon actual program expenses.
  • Credits earned abroad are guaranteed to transfer back to Ithaca College, and grades received will be calculated in cumulative GPA.
  • A leave of absence is not required – students remain active Ithaca College students while abroad on an exchange program.
  • Housing will be provided either in residence halls or in off-campus apartments, depending upon location and availability
  • Meal plans are not available, but students will have access to kitchen facilities, cafeterias and restaurants.
