Team Ithaca College participated for the second time in the annual Chicago Cares Servathon, the largest day of community service in Chicago on June 14, 2008. Members of the Chicago area Ithaca College Alumni group joined over 8,500 other volunteers at 26 elementary schools throughout Chicago to beautify classrooms, libraries, and playgrounds.
Assigned to Walsh Elementary School in the Pilsen area of Chicago, the now-experienced Team Ithaca went for the big challenge and volunteered to paint the cafeteria mural -- the task ranked first in importance by the school principal. From mixing color hues and shades to discussing the merits of adding legs to the butterfly, we had a wonderful time filled with camaraderie and laughter. The final product can be seen in photos from the event.
At the end of the day we all knew we would be back again next year for this very rewarding community service project.
