Ithaca, NY- Yesterday, at the Oxley Equestrian Center, the Ithaca College Equestrian Team placed fourth at the Cornell University Horse Show. Although the competition was fierce, the team was able to take three first place ribbons.
The day began with Liana Garcia-Osborne, senior rider and co-captain, qualifying for regionals in intermediate over fences (placing third). Erica Schillbach, sophomore and co-captain, followed suit, placing third in open over fences. Mallory McCulloch placed third in intermediate over fences and returning rider, Amy auf der Springe, placed fourth in novice over fences.
After a brief lunch break, the day continued with intermediate, novice, beginner, and walk-trot on the flat. Stephanie Goldenberg, who qualified for regionals yesterday, and Mallory McCulloch both won blue ribbons in intermediate flat with Katie Shaw right behind, placing second. Katie Shaw, a new rider this semester, previously rode for Kutztown University. In novice flat, Sarah Apgar placed fifth.
Advanced walk-trot-canter brought about another blue ribbon, with Melissa Tauscher taking first and while simultaneously qualifying for regionals. Marianne Dabir and Maya Ben-Yaacov also qualified for regionals yesterday in advanced walk-trot-canter.
Jamie Goldenberg, younger sister to Stephanie Goldenberg and new rider, showed for her first time in the Walk-Trot class, placing third.
Altogether, yesterday’s show was a huge success for the Ithaca College Equestrian Team with five riders qualifying for regionals and three first place ribbons. The five qualified riders will be joining Kim Vendola and Erica Schillbach, who had previously qualified in earlier shows.
The next show is to take place at Alfred University, where Mallory McCulloch and Kelly Harper have a chance to qualify for regionals as well.
