Feeling Under the Weather?

I am currently brainstorming weekly times to hold campus affairs committee meetings. Thus far, Monday evenings at 8pm seems to be the best time. If you are sincerely wanting to join the campus life committee and this time does not work for you please contact me asap. Remember the committee is open to all SGA members AND non members.

On another note, check out the Ithaca Health Center website for some tips on staying healthy and flu free this season! Remember to take precautions now to help with crises in the future!

Have a great weekend!

Beauty

Tell someone they are beautiful. Call them. Text them. Email them.

http://americathebeautifuldoc.com/

We are all beautiful. The industry, the monster of society would not make a dime if you loved yourself.

Start.

Love yourself. Love another. We are all beautiful people. Smile. Laugh. Cry. Sing.

Documentary - America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful
February 11, 2009, 7:00 p.m., Textor 102
Documentary Preview & Q&A by producer – Darryl Roberts
http://www.americathebeautifuldoc.com/
In almost 40,000 media messages a year, youthful Americas are being told that, unless you look like supermodels and rock stars, you’re not good enough for anyone to love. This is a message that too many people are buying.
Filmmaker Darryl Roberts goes on a two year journey to examine America’s new obsession; physical perfection. In America the Beautiful, we learn secrets, confessions, and strikingly harsh realities as Roberts unearths the origins and deadly risks of our nation’s quest for physical perfection.

Recyclemania is back!

Recyclemania is a friendly competition between hundreds of colleges and universities across the nation throughout North America. This year's competition runs January 24 to April 3.

During this 10-week period, participating schools compete in a variety of contests that compare our recycling rate, as well as the trash we generate, to other participating schools. Since all the recycling on campus is collected together, this contest is for every one of the members of the College community.Recyclemania is an opportunity to raise awareness about the amount of waste we generate. Last year we continued our slide from first place in New York state!

Our overall recycling rate was third in the state (out of 6 schools) and 23rd in the nation (out of 79 schools).

Our pounds of recycled material per person came in seventh in the state (out of 11 schools), and 48th in the nation (of 151 schools).

Our total waste produced per person earned us second in the state out of 7 schools, and 36th in the nation out of 87 schools.

This year, 38 colleges and universities are competing in New York State, including Empire 8 rivals St. John Fisher and RIT.

Check out www.recyclemaniacs.org for more on the contest rules.

Do you bit, recycle it!
Recycling is easy to do, and it conserves energy, reduces green house gas emissions and creates jobs. So, pitch it in the bin and help the planet breathe easier. All you have to do to participate is use the bins in your room or office to dispose of the following items:

In the blue bins:
Fliers, newspapers, catalogs, magazines, brochures, notebook paper, computer paper, books, pamphlets and junk mail, paperboard (such as cereal boxes), and scrap paper.

In the green bins:
Metal or aluminum cans, aluminum foil, glass bottles (all colors), #1-7 plastics bottles, #5 tubs (such as yogurt cups), milk cartons, and drink/juice boxes.

If you want to know more about how you can be involved on campus, contact the Ithaca College Resource and Environmental Management Program (REMP) at irecycle@ithaca.edu.

Thank you REMP for all your hardwork on Ithaca College campus!

Emergency Notification

According to campus officials, only 50% of IC's student body is signed up for the Emergency Notification System.

That means only 50% of us will get a text and/or email that alerts us of a threat or emergency, like a gunman on the loose or such.

If you're not in the registered 50%,sign up now.

Don't let procrastination or ignorance be the deciding factor for your personal safety.

MLK Service Day!

At this time of year, we're all in the giving and caring spirit. Keep that spirit going by signing up to participate in the service projects occurring as part of MLK Day 2009 on January 19.

Project opportunities include something for every interest: from construction to organizing, from community canvassing to leading discussions; and from sewing to journalism projects.

Not only will you help the community organizations that service the Ithaca area so effectively, but you'll have a great time and learn something too!

If you're more interested in an intellectual experience, then also check out the many learning opportunities that will be offered on campus by faculty and staff throughout the day. Please sign up for these in advance as well.
