Burgeoning HEOP scholars are required to participate and attend a four-week session as mandated by the State Education Department (June 28 - July 29, 2017). Scholars are also required to attend Ithaca College Orientation June 26 - June 28, 2017. SI participants are not allowed to leave the program from Wednesday, June 28, 2017 thru Saturday, July 29, 2017. See Frequently Asked Questions.
The REQUIRED institute is about five weeks and provides a valuable and exciting preview of intensive and rigorous coursework at Ithaca College. Incoming first-year students collaborate with each other as they adjust to the demands, creativity, and expectations of higher education at Ithaca College.
The Summer Institute offers five courses which focus on social development, mathematical and writing skills, a seminar structured course on "Exploring Psychology in Everyday Life," and a course on academic success strategies. Besides an interdisciplinary academic experience, the Summer Institute provides career, cultural, social, and leadership development, along with recreational activities on the campus, in the Ithaca community, and regionally within New York State.
As participants emerge from successfully completing the Summer Institute, they will have achieved student empowerment, self-efficacy, and confidence to grow as Ithaca College scholars. See photos.
