Summer Institute for Burgeoning Scholars
Office of State Grants Summer Institute
Burgeoning HEOP scholars are required to participate and attend a four-week session as mandated by the State Education Department (scheduled dates: July 3 - July 26, 2013).
The REQUIRED four-week pre-freshman institute provides a valuable and exciting preview of rigorous coursework at Ithaca College. Incoming first-year students collaborate with each another as they adjust to the demands, creativity, and expectations of higher education at Ithaca College.
The Summer Institute offers 3 academic courses which focus on mathematical and writing skills, a seminar course on "Exploring Psychology in Everyday Life" and academic success strategies. Besides an interdisciplinary academic experience, the Summer Institute provides career, cultural, social, and leadership development, along with recreational activities on the campus, in the Ithaca community, and regionally within New York State.
As particants emerge from successfully completing the Summer Institute, they will have achieved student empowerment, self-efficacy, and confidence to grow as Ithaca College scholars. See photos.
