Participating in athletics is one important way students can gain much-needed skills that extend far beyond the playing field: teamwork, dedication, resilience in defeat, and humility in victory. Whether your student is a member of a varsity team or chooses to become involved with recreational sports, we hope you'll make a few visits to campus to help cheer on the home team!
The Office of Recreational Sports is the place to go to keep up a healthy, active lifestyle. The majority -- 80 percent! -- of our campus community members use the Fitness Center regularly, and many take part in informal recreation, such as pickup games. The Outdoor Recreation Equipment Center offers rentals for camping and other outdoor equipment that can help your student explore the natural beauty of Ithaca and the Finger Lakes region.
About 20 percent of students at Ithaca College participate in intramural sports (e.g., basketball, flag football, volleyball). And many students belong to one or more of the 35-40 registered sport clubs on campus (e.g., rugby, ultimate Frisbee, dance). Sport clubs are organized and led by student officers, providing opportunities for your student to develop valuable leadership skills.
Go Bombers! Intercollegiate athletics are another way for your student to stay active and involved. Ithaca College is a member of the Empire 8 Conference and the Eastern College Athletic Conference. There are 27 varsity sports sponsored.
