Research and Colloquia

Working alone or in collaboration with their peer scholars or a faculty mentor, Park scholars often apply for and receive funding to pursue research and service interests outside the classroom. These scholars then share the knowledge they've gained from their experiences with other Park scholars at specially organized biannual colloquia.

In addition, scholars report on research projects completed during their semesters abroad at monthly brown bag lunches. Finally, each spring, Park scholars take to the podium to deliver presentations on how various media make a difference at the College’s prestigious campus-wide James J. Whalen Academic Symposium.

Past research topics have included

• how contemporary media responds to gender and media issues
  

• the role of a community radio station formed by Salvadoran refugees
  

• the challenges of online literary and journalistic magazines
  

• the media and public opinion in times of international crises
  

• and film and collective memory in postwar Peru.
