The Park Scholar program kicked off the 2008-2009 academic year with a barbeque held on August 19. Incoming freshmen Park Scholars and their parents, along with current Park Scholars, faculty and administration were in attendance. Program Director Matthew Fee welcomed the scholars and their parents, and was followed by Diane Lynch, Dean of the Park School of Communications.
The barbeque also began the orientation program for freshmen Park Scholars where they were introduced to the Park Scholar program. Led by current Park Scholars, the freshmen participated in team building and leadership exercises, and group discussions.

“I thought it was an easy way to get reacquainted with the class and meet some of the older scholars. Plus, getting to see the campus before the mad rush of the regular move in day made me more comfortable,” freshman Sam McCann said.

“Freshman orientation was enjoyable for me because I got to know the freshmen better, I had a lot of fun,” said junior orientation leader Robyn Fiedler.
