How do communities -- international or local -- function most effectively? For recent graduate Lindsey Knox, an international relations course gave her such an eye-opening perspective on how countries could best interact that she chose to spend time studying at the UN in Switzerland. This real-world exposure to global politics has motivated her to consider a career as a foreign correspondent. And it’s not only her courses that have given her new views of community.
“Being part of the Park Scholar Program was a tremendous experience,” says Lindsey. “The flow of ideas between so many dynamic, talented people was inspiring and exciting -- whether we talked about class work or personal issues or world events. Someone would say ‘Hey, let’s do this -- it will be really beneficial for the community and the school,’ and then it actually happened.” For example, with Lindsey’s help, the Park scholars launched Megaphone Media Productions, a media agency that creates informational videos, develops print and marketing materials, and provides web site assistance to local nonprofit groups.
