An integral part of the Department’s efforts is to award fellowships to graduate students for study in support of multidisciplinary research objectives. Recipients pursue research opportunities at universities of their choice—leading to doctoral degrees in mathematical, physical, biological, ocean and engineering sciences.
The Department of Defense plans to award 90 three-year graduate fellowships including tuition, fees (not to include room and board) and additional annual stipends. The duration of a Fellowship is 36 months during three years; alternate terms may be granted under exceptional circumstances. Fellows do not incur military duty.
