American Symphony Orchestra League Management Fellowship
The American Symphony Orchestra League’s Orchestra Management Fellowship Program is a thorough and intensive year-long program in all facets of orchestra management. The Fellowship begins with attendance at the League’s National Conference in June, recommences in August, and continues through July. This on-the-job training program is individually tailored to provide the maximum educational experience for each fellow.
Each fellow receives a $32,500 stipend for the year and a two-week Christmas vacation. In addition, travel and some relocation expenses are paid, and medical insurance is available. The program includes: three separate assignments with professional orchestras under the direct supervision of the executive director, an in-depth orientation to the music industry in New York City, a two-week orientation at the League’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., attendance at two of the League’s National Conferences, and job placement services.
Applicants should be strong leaders who are committed to pursuing a career as an orchestra manager. Ideal candidates must have demonstrated musical knowledge, management skills, proven organizational and communication skills, maturity, confidence, and the ability to work independently as well as with diverse groups. Applicants should have experience working or volunteering with the management of an arts organization.
