General Information
The deadline for
application is March 15, 2001.
Qualifications
The Chamber Music
Institute is open to violin, viola, and cello students. Minimum performance
level should be equivalent to the Bach Concerto in A Minor for violin,
the Telemann Concerto in G Major for viola, and the Vivaldi Sonata in
E Minor for cello. The institute reserves the right to limit the number
of certain instruments (such as the violin) to ensure the proper balance
for quartets.
Students must be at
least 12 years old by July 1 to be accepted into the program. The upper
age limit is 18.
Accommodations
and Recreation
Participants in the
Chamber Music Institute will live together on campus in a college residence
hall. This facility is under the supervision of a team of mature, trained
male and female advisers who live in the residence hall with the students.
The residence advisers also provide leadership for carefully planned recreational
and social activities.
Expenses
The fee for the three-week
institute is $1,800. Payment plans are available. The fee covers participation
in quartet coaching and rehearsals, string orchestra rehearsals, lessons,
planned recreational activities, meals in the campus dining hall, housing
(a shared double room in the supervised campus residence hall) and an
institute T-shirt.
Scholarship aid is
available on a limited basis to viola and cello students. These scholarships
are designed mainly to ensure the proper instrumental balance for quartets.
Scholarships are awarded on a merit basis and will not exceed $750. Please
direct your request in writing to Sanford Reuning, institute director.
Notifica- tion will be given together with acceptance into the program.
Refunds:
If you are accepted and cancel your registration before May 1, a full
refund, less a $50 administrative service fee, will be made. No refunds
