Campus Facilities and ServicesThe Campus Ithaca College has well-equipped facilities and an attractively landscaped
campus. Its vantage point above the city of Ithaca provides an outstanding
view of Cayuga Lake Institute participants have available to them a wide variety of recreational facilities on campus. These include an outdoor swimming pool and track, tennis courts, and a gymnasium. In addition, the Finger Lakes region offers many interesting places for family excursions. Within easy driving distance are such attractions as Corning’s world-renowned glass museum, award-winning wineries, Mark Twain’s summer home, and numerous state parks boasting waterfalls and gorges. Because the campus is built on a hill, visitors are advised to bring comfortable walking shoes. Medical Services The College’s health center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Minor injuries and health problems are treated by the College staff nurse. A College physician is also available during regularly scheduled hours each day. If necessary, referrals are made to local physicians and medical facilities on a fee-for-service basis. Payment of fees incurred for off-campus physician visits and/or medication is the responsibility of the institute participant or his or her family. Teens who will be staying in a dorm are required to complete and return a health information form, which will be sent with the invoice. Participation in the institute is contingent on receipt of the health form on or before the first day of scheduled activities. Housing Children and parents attending the Suzuki Student Institute may select on-campus housing from the Garden Apartments, deluxe residence hall rooms, or standard residence hall rooms. The Garden Apartments and standard residence hall triples are available on a very limited basis — first-come, first-served. Weekly housing rates are for six nights (Sunday through Friday). Persons registered for both weeks of the institutes will be housed without charge over the weekend between sessions. Housing is available only for the duration of the institutes. All accommodations include bed linen, one pillow and blanket per bed, and one towel per person for the week. Residents should bring clothes hangers, desk lamps, an extra blanket, and a fan if desired. Persons staying for more than one week are pro-vided with a weekly linen exchange. Standard residence hall rooms include twin-size beds. Stoves and refrigerators are not available. A standard residence hall triple is a double-size room with one twin bed (elevated in some rooms) and one set of bunk beds. The elevated beds and top bunk beds do not have railings and are not recommended for younger children. Deluxe rooms are air-conditioned and include two twin-size beds and a private bathroom with shower. Triples have one twin bed and one set of bunk beds. Stoves and refrigerators are available in common kitchen areas only and are not intended for regular meal preparation. The Garden Apartments are furnished with a stove, refrigerator, couch and/or easy chairs, desk and chair, dresser, twin beds, and bunk beds in some larger apartments. Residents must bring their own cooking and eating utensils. Suzuki students who are 12 or older by July 1, 2000, may attend the institute without a parent. They are housed in a supervised residence hall and are charged a teen-dorm fee to cover the additional cost of recreation and supervision. If you prefer to stay off campus, a list of area motels and campgrounds is available upon request. Dining The College dining hall provides a wide choice of hot and cold entrées, vegetables, fruits, salads, and desserts. Foods are served cafeteria-style with unlimited helpings. Prepaid meal plans are available on a weekly basis. For additional dining convenience the College snack bar offers meals and refreshments à la carte. Meals are served from Sunday dinner through Saturday breakfast. Two-week plans include lunch and dinner on Saturday and brunch on Sunday over the weekend between sessions. |
