Integrating Suzuki Techniques with the Traditional Public School
String Program
Muriel Bodley
This course
acquaints public school teachers with the basic Suzuki techniques
and their application to the traditional string program. The focus
of the course is the beginning student. Daily classes concentrate
on the use of Suzuki literature in conjunction with other materials.
Bodley will demonstrate techniques with first- and second-year students.
There will also be a discussion of the beginner’s concert, materials
for string ensemble and middle school levels, and the transition
from first-year Suzuki instruction to reading. Some Suzuki training
is beneficial but not required. Participants should bring their
own instruments. Bodley is a teacher in the Fayetteville-Manlius
school district in New York.

Suzuki Practicum
This course
provides a mentor program for Suzuki violin or cello teachers. Teachers
daily instruct three or four of their own students and receive critical
comments and constructive help in developing teaching skills from
an experienced institute faculty member. Students being taught in
this program attend the institute at the greatly reduced tuition
of $57 per week. The teacher and mentor will have close interaction
during the session. The cost to the teacher is $337.
