Above and Beyond

Karen Johnson, executive assistant to Howard S. Erlich, dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, was honored with an IC Choice Award. Individual recipients receive $1,000 in recognition of work above and beyond the call of duty. Says Johnson, "The IC Choice Award was truly an overwhelming surprise. I was thrilled to have been nominated, reviewed by my peers, and selected." The first recipients of this annual award were named in 1999 through a program that rewards staff members' distinguished and innovative contributions to the College. Johnson says that her commitment to the school and the College is broad and that she thrives in her job: "What I enjoy most is the diversity --- everything from dealing with personnel issues to preparing and monitoring budgets to assisting departments with hiring faculty and staff. I also enjoy the people. Without them my day would be routine; if given the opportunity, I can be quite a social bug!" Social maybe, but certainly no slouch --- Johnson earned this award for outstanding work.
