performance of Beethoven’s ninth symphony will be featured as the Ithaca College Choir and Chamber Orchestra go on four-state tour March 7–11. Performances are slated for Troy, New York; Lincoln, Massachusetts; Huntington Station, New York; Falls Church, Virginia; and York, Pennsylvania.At each venue, the first of a two-part program will be presented by the choir under the direction of School of Music faculty member Lawrence Doebler. The "Symphony for Voices" will include choral pieces ranging from 15th century motets to 20th century spirituals by such composers as Handl, Brahms, Byrd, and Schoenberg. The second part of the concert will be dedicated to Beethoven's ninth. The choir, chamber orchestra, and faculty soloists Randie Blooding, Carol McAmis, David Parks, and Beth Ray will perform under the direction of School of Music faculty member Grant Cooper.
The concerts are free and open to the public, and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ithaca College president James J. Whalen and School of Music dean Arthur Ostrander will be available prior to the concerts at gatherings to which alumni, current students, and parents have been invited.
