Kudos

Kim Dunnick, music, co-edited a book, The Memoirs of Timofei Dokshizer, which was released in January. The book is an autobiography of world-famous trumpet player Timofei Dokshizer. It recounts his family and professional life under various Russian leaders including Lenin, Stalin, and Khrushchev. The book was translated by Olga Braslavsky and co-edited by Joyce Davis of the University of Florida. Dunnick also recently served as a panelist on the presentation "East Meets West" at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden. The conference dealt with current and future sharing of ideas, research, music literature, pedagogy, performance practices, and musical styles between former Soviet Bloc musicians and those in the Western world. He also chaired a panel discussion titled "Brass Research: Techniques, Funding and Publication," which discussed the current state of brass research, including projected trends for future research.

Sandra L. Herndon, corporate communication, is chairing and giving a panel presentation on "Communication Study and Practice in the People’s Republic of China" at two conferences in April (Eastern Communication Association and Southern States Communication Association). One of her presentations focuses on the experiences of communicating through an interpreter, and the other focuses on finding common ground for the discipline of communication. Each panel will be followed by a response from a Chinese-American scholar. Herndon was a member of an international delegation to China in May 1997.
