Homecoming Set for October 8–10

Homecoming festivitiesIthaca College alumni will be returning to South Hill on Friday through Sunday, October 8–10, for a Homecoming weekend that will include a barbecue, a concert, four varsity sports contests, campus tours, and a young alumni panel discussion. In addition, the Department of Television-Radio will be celebrating five decades of excellence in preparing students for the broadcast communications industry.

Interested alumni can drop by Roy H. Park Hall for a number of special events, including "TV-R@50: Looking Back at Five Decades," a series of panel discussions structured like a talk show. Excerpts from films and videos produced by TV-R students in each of the past five decades will be screened, setting the scene for comment and audience participation. A complete schedule of the TV-R events is available at www.ithaca.edu/tvr@50. For more information call the Department of Television-Radio at 274-3260.

Alumni who haven’t been back to the College in some time can see how much the campus has changed by taking one of the tours departing from the Office of Admission at the top of each hour, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00–11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

To set the mood for a weekend of athletic activities, the Student Alumni Association and Student Government Association are sponsoring a pep rally at 7:00 p.m. on Friday on the Campus Center quad. The varsity men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, and football teams all have home contests on the schedule, while alumni men’s lacrosse and wrestling matches are also slated. Nine new members will be inducted into the Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame at the annual banquet on Saturday night.

The Saturday schedule also features

  • a panel of recent alumni discussing the transition from undergraduate school to the world of work or graduate school. Sponsored by the Office of Career Services and the senior class, the discussion will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Clark Lounge, Egbert Hall.
  • the traditional Homecoming barbecue, featuring live music and the opportunity to chat with President Peggy R. Williams, faculty, and staff. The barbecue starts at 11:00 a.m. and leads up to the 1:00 p.m. football kickoff at Butterfield Stadium, where the Bombers will try to extend their four-game winning streak over SUNY College at Brockport.
  • a reception for former student leaders, starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Klingenstein Lounge, Egbert Hall.

Homecoming weekend wraps up on Sunday with a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Ben Light Gymnasium, featuring the swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and alternative rockers Blessid Union of Souls. This concert was originally slated for Saturday night but has been changed to Sunday because of a scheduling conflict. For ticket information call the Bureau of Concerts at 274-1621.

Tickets are required for the barbecue, football game, and Athletic Hall of Fame banquet. For registration information and a complete schedule of Home-coming ’99 activities, call the Office of Alumni Relations at 274-1393 or visit the Homecoming Web page.
