Kristen Ford Appointed Director of AthleticsAfter serving since August 1 in an interim capacity, Kristen Ford has been named director of intercollegiate athletics. She succeeds Betsy Alden, who resigned last summer following two years at Ithaca.
Ford had spent one year as Ithaca’s associate director of planned and leadership giving after 11 years in athletics administration at the College, serving most recently as associate director of athletics. She was hired as assistant to the director in 1986, promoted to assistant director in 1989, and promoted to associate director in 1998. During Ford’s tenure as interim athletics director the Bombers won Empire Eight championships in men’s soccer, women’s tennis, and volleyball and had seven of eight fall sports teams qualify for NCAA or Eastern College Athletic Conference playoff competitions. Ford earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Rhode Island. A two-time state cross-country champion for the Division I Rams, she became the school’s first runner to qualify for the NCAA cross-country championship in 1982. She also qualified twice for the NCAA track and field championships. For her accomplishments she received the school’s Winifred Keaney Award as the outstanding senior female athlete. In 1997 she was inducted into her alma mater’s hall of fame. She is also a member of the New York State Section IV Hall of Fame. In addition to serving on various state and regional sport committees, Ford was a member of the NCAA Division III women’s soccer selection committee in 1997 and was president of the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association from 1994 to 1996.
