Playwright and director Moisés Kaufman
will appear at Ithaca College on Tuesday, April 11, to discuss
his new play, The Laramie Project. The play is based on
the murder of Matthew Shepard, the gay college student who was
beaten to death in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1998.

John B. Oblak, who has served for the past 12
years as vice president for student affairs and campus life, has
been named president of the College of Notre Dame in Belmont,
California.

Nearly 800 students, faculty, staff, and alumni
took part in the annual Day of Service — renamed this year a "Celebration
of Service" — on Friday, March 24.

Ithaca College Theatre will conclude its 1999–2000
season with a staging in Clark Theatre of Summer and Smoke,
Tennessee Williams’s dark tale of passion and lost innocence.
A preview performance will be presented on Wednesday, April 12,
at 8:00 p.m..

The Gerontology Institute Distinguished Speaker
Series will present its last offering of the current academic
year on Wednesday, April 12, with a talk by Jean K. Quam,
professor and director of the School of Social Work at the University
of Minnesota.

The College’s third annual "Take a Child to Work
Day" will be held this year on Monday, April 17. The daylong
program of activities will start in the Emerson Suites in Phillips
Hall with registration and a continental breakfast between 8:00
and 9:00 a.m.

Andrew Revkin, an environmental reporter for the
New York Times and the author of an award-winning book
about the murder of Brazilian rain forest advocate Chico Mendes,
will speak at the College on Thursday, April 20.

WomenSpeak, an annual day of lectures, readings,
and performances by women faculty, students, and staff of Ithaca
College, will be held on Wednesday, April 12, in Muller Chapel.
The program, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled
for 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m

Ambassador Shmuel Sisso, the consul general of
Israel in New York City, will speak on "Present Problems and Future
Trends in Israel" at Ithaca College on Thursday, April 13.

Students at Ithaca College and Cornell University
are working together to make wishes come true. A 5K-road race,
"Running for a Wish" will be held at the College on Saturday,
April 15, to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of
Central New York.

The United Way campaign at Ithaca College exceeded
its goal for the first time in four years. Contributions this
year totaled $61,548; the goal was $61,000. The number of participants
also rose, from 451 in the 1998–99 campaign to 522 in 1999–2000.

All events are free and open to the public except
where noted.
