2001 Alumni Awards

Arnold P. Broido ’41
Distinguished Alumni Award

For 26 years Broido was president and chief executive officer of the Theodore Presser music publishing company. He now serves as chairman of that company’s board. Broido was a key force in creating the Ithaca College choral composition festival. He also served as a member of the advisory committee for the campaign responsible for building the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

William A. Scoones
James J. Whalen Meritorious Service Award

In December 2000 Scoones retired from the College as special assistant to the provost and vice president for academic affairs, capping 31 years of service as a faculty member and administrator. During his tenure he served on the faculty of the former Department of Education and held more than a dozen administrative positions, including dean of the School of Allied Health Professions and director of the Center for Teacher Education. In recognition of his efforts as chairman of the Celebration of Service Committee, the College this year named the William Scoones Community Service Award in his honor.

Lewis D. Gallo ’51 (posthumous)
Lifetime Achievement Award

Gallo’s show business career spanned five decades. He made television appearances on Gunsmoke and The Twilight Zone, among many others, and was a series regular on Twelve O’Clock High. His film credits include Pork Chop Hill and PT 109. He also produced such television favorites as Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and That Girl. A supporter of worthy causes, he created two golf tournaments that benefited numerous charities. He passed away June 11, 2000.

David Boreanaz ’91
Outstanding Young Alumni Award

Boreanaz moved to Los Angeles after graduating to start his career in show business. After three years of commercials and roles in local theater, he was cast as a biker in the popular television series Married . . . with Children. Two years later he landed another television role, this time as the troubled vampire, Angel, on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. In 1998 he began starring in Angel, a spin-off series. Boreanaz now has his own production company.
