Iincoming
students were formally welcomed to Ithaca College at the annual
Convocation ceremony in Ben Light Gymnasium. New members of the
campus community joined with trustees, faculty, and staff in officially
kicking off the start of another academic year.

When the educational
collaboration between Ithaca College and the Elmira Correctional
Facility began, it was an informal series of lectures presented
by various faculty members from Ithaca, Cornell, and Elmira College.
Now it is possible for interested inmates with a high school diploma
or its equivalent to earn three credits for a yearlong course.

September
18, poet, lecturer, and storyteller Bobby González will
discuss "The Native Heritage of Latin America." September 24,
video artist Alex Rivera will present "Retrospective: Video and
Net-Based Satires on Latino/Latina Identities and Cyberculture."
The events are part of the Office of Multicultural Affairs Awareness
Series and are free and open to the public.

The 10th annual
Founder’s Day Concert in the Park will be held on Sunday, September
16, at 2:00 p.m. in DeWitt Park. The rain location will be Ford
Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

The 20012
Ithaca College Concerts series, "Rhythms of the Dance,"
will begin on Saturday, September 15, with a performance by the
Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra, a resident ensemble that uses the
Smithsonian Institutions collection of period instruments
to perform works from the baroque era to the present.

--- will offer his take on this fall’s prime-time television shows,
including a discussion of canceled and returning shows and a prediction
of how new shows will fare against old favorites.
