Office of Multicultural Affairs to Host Unity Festival

The Office of Multicultural Affairs has invited the College community to take part in the Unity Festival, a two-day celebration of cultural awareness and diversity. The festival will begin at noon on Friday, September 28, with a kickoff event held at the "free speech rock" outside the Campus Center. At 7:30 p.m. Allen Johnson, author of Privilege, Power, and Difference, will give a keynote address, "The Trouble We’re In," in Park Hall Auditorium. Johnson’s talk is also a part of the "Race and Its Meanings" lecture and discussion series. (See story on page 5.)

The festival will continue on Saturday, September 29, with the fifth annual Unity Relays, which will be held at Butterfield Stadium from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Teams of students, faculty, and staff will gather to participate in a series of relay races. For registration information, call the Office of Multicultural Affairs at 274-1692.

After the relay events, a "unity walk" will begin at the stadium and end in the Campus Center quad, where educational booths, food, games, and entertainment centered on exploring and celebrating diversity will be offered. These events will run until 5:00 p.m.
