Symposium Brings Alumni and Students TogetherThe 17th annual Professionals Symposium will take place Friday - Sunday, September 20 - 22. In addition to workshops and career networking sessions, it will feature an awards dinner with talks by two successful alumni. Sponsored by the Offices of Multicultural Affairs, Alumni Relations, and Career Services, the Professionals Symposium is held in conjunction with Homecoming to provide an opportunity for African, Latino, Asian, and Native American (ALANA) alumni to meet and network with students. The symposium will start Friday with a session on careers that will run from 4:00 to 6:00 pm An alumni/student dinner will follow. Saturday's activities include a morning session on a new program that pairs interested alumni and current students for a long-term mentoring arrangement; the goal is an internship or similar hands-on job experience for the student. The highlight of the day --- the annual awards dinner --- will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 pm in the Emerson Suites. In addition to offering students recognition for their accomplishments, the program will feature talks on mentoring by Latitia Greene '87, a teacher in Lanham, Maryland, and Edgardo Rivera '88, the vice president of marketing for J Records. Both are members of the Ithaca College Alumni Association Board of Directors. The symposium will conclude on Sunday with a farewell brunch hosted by Southern Tier alumni.
