We have been recycling in all the offices on campus since 1990. Our program is successful because you make it work!
If you do not have a bin for recycling, have too much material for your bin or are not sure if it is recyclable, contact us at the Recycling Information Line (x41777).
Paper:
Put paper to be recycled in the recycle bin in your office.
If you are purging files, please contact us and we will provide a larger bin for the duration of the clean out (x41777)
Laser and Ink Jet Cartridges:
The increased cost of shipping has forced a change in the arrangements REMP had made to have laser cartridges recycled. We are asking that individual users of laser cartridges use the pre-paid label that accompanies the installation instructions in the box with each new cartridge to send the cartridge in for recycling. Mail services will not accept a cartridge without a pre-paid shipping label. Please carefully follow the instructions that accompany each new cartridge for recycling the old one.
Small ink jet cartridges can be recycled using the postage plastic envelopes available in computer labs, at OSCAR or other locations on campus. The income from recycling these cartridges in this way helps to off set the costs of recycling and waste disposal on campus. If you need envelopes, please contact us at irecycle@ithaca.edu or the Recycling Information Line 274-1777.
Containers:
Please put containers in the bins located in the common areas near your office.
Floppy Disks and CDs:
Send your unwanted, worn out, used up or ruined 3.5 floppies and CDs to “Recycling/ Warehouse” via campus mail.
Rechargeable Batteries:
We accept only rechargeable batteries for recycling. Please contact Tim Ryan at Life Safety to arrange for collection x41613. Single use, non-rechargeable alkaline batteries should be disposed of with trash.
Confidential Material:
There are several ways to dispose of material considered to be confidential. It is best to shred this material in your office. Shredding allows us to include this material with our regular paper for which we get paid. We must pay for the services of an outside contractor to handle the disposal of large batches of confidential materials. If your area generates large quantities of confidential material, please consider purchasing an appropriate shredder. If you occasionally need to dispose of large quantities of confidential material, contact Recycling Information Line x41777.
