Computers, monitors, televisions and other electronic equipment, rechargeable batteries, and flourescent light bulbs contain relatively small amounts of heavy metals such as lead and mercury and are not allowed to be mixed with regular trash.
These items are known as "universal waste" and to keep heavy metals out of the environment, they must be recycled. (Regular household-type incandescent light bulbs and alkaline batteries can be placed in normal trash.)
Instructions for Disposal
Small universal waste items, such as fluorescent light bulbs and rechargeable batteries, can be dropped off at any Residential Life Area or Satellite Office: Circles Community Building; East Tower (lobby); Emerson Hall (lobby); Rowland Hall (lobby); Terrace 07, Room 100. Other Drop-off locations are the Garden 27 Mail Room and the O.S.C.A.R. Room (Phillips Hall, Room 196).
For larger items, like computer equipment, televisions, or e-waste that has been damaged, submit a service request online using the iService Desk to have the item(s) picked up. |
